UNBOUND

Here on Unbound, our plot follows four different timelines, set throughout the canonical history of the Dragon Age. The events following Trespasser, the time of the Inquisition, the rise of the Champion of Kirkwall and the quest of the Warden against the Fifth Blight.

And So is the Golden City blackened
With each step you take in my Hall.
Marvel at perfection, for it is fleeting.
You have brought Sin to Heaven
And doom upon all the world.

Rogue
31     pirate captain     anywhere
Willow
Willow has been a pirate for most of her life at this point, despite a stint of several years on land after her first ship and crew were sunk by the Orlesians when she was fifteen. After getting back into the swing of things, she progressed through the ranks from a rigger to quartermaster to captain. A part of the Felicisima Armada, Willow is ambitious – though not in the manner many captains are. While many of her peers are building armadas and becoming admirals, Willow is content with her single ship, The Storm Dragon. However she wants to make it the best ship on all the seas, and for that she needs an edge. In the past few years she’s set her heart on the one thing that would make hers the single most powerful ship in the Armada: gaatlock.

When she’s on land she’s one of the Friends of Red Jenny, mostly to give her a fun outlet away from the stresses of being captain. This has landed her in hot water in the past, but given she’s still kicking Willow sees no reason to stop now.

She discovered her half-Chasind roots a few years ago, and has been in frequent contact with her extended family in the Korcari Wilds, who are under the impression Willow is an honest sailor, ever since.

Friends: Willow counts them in droves, though they range from ‘more-acquaintances-really’ to ‘crew-members-I’d-take-a-sword-in-the-gut-for’. She still holds a faint hope that her original crew survived the ship going down, though she’s heard nothing for years.

Enemies: Also a sizable crowd, since Willow finds trouble wherever she goes if she’s not the one causing it. This could be anyone who looks down on her, enemy crews, or the occasional assassins sent after her when she crosses a line with someone with the funds to hire them. Since she has a loose alliance with the Inquisition, you can count any of their enemies hers as well.

Lovers: Willow has quite a few under her belt, mostly casual flings with no strings attached. She is open to a more permanent relationship, but she’d need someone who wouldn’t hold her back or tie her to land. Should she find the right person however, she’d go to the Void and back for them in a heartbeat.

30     Inquisition agent/Dalish scout     anywhere
Inera Felas’nan
Inera has had a chequered history to say the least. She fought at the Battle of Denerim, spent nearly a decade on the run after massacring the Templars who attacked her clan and maimed her sister, returned to find a once-open clan severely isolationist and bitter towards humans, with her sister the worst of all. She became an Inquisition agent to help with the Breach and, admittedly, to escape her family, only to return after the events of the Exalted Council and the revelation of Fen’Harel’s identity.

Ever since she and her clan have had strange dreams. Whispers. Nudges towards a rallying point. Several clans have already vanished, chasing the promises given to them. Inera’s Andrale clan are one of many who hesitate, pressing for an unscheduled Arlathvhen to discuss what they have learned. What they need is information – if joining the Dread Wolf is safe, or just another trick. Inera leaves her clan again in pursuit of his camp, intent on joining as a spy to see if she can trust her people to him. If she can, they will join. If not, then the Inquisition will likely want to know what she’s learned.

Friends: Very few. Inera’s gotten used to moving frequently, never staying long enough to make significant friendships. She’s even grown distant from her own family and clan members, having been separated for seven years in which they went down vastly different paths. Since the Blight her closest friend was her wolf, Dor’falon, who was with her throughout her exile. However he passed on in 9:44 at an impressive 14 years old. Currently the closest thing Inera has to friends are her old Inquisition contacts, and even they’re more like colleagues. She’s more trusting around other Dalish, and still a little leery of strange Templars, though that hasn’t stopped her working with and respecting several individual ones.

Enemies: Anyone who is a threat to the People and/or her clan specifically. This has now expanded to the Inquisition’s enemies, especially Venatori – though the Vints were always dodgy anyway. Depending on if she finds Fen’Harel and if he is a threat, Inera might add a literal god (as far as she’s concerned) to this list. She’s spent too much time in fear when she was younger to be scared anymore, no matter how powerful someone is.

Lovers: She’s only had two, only for a night, and only if she trusted them and felt safe enough to relax. One was at an Arlathvhen, and one in the Inquisition after celebrating their victory and having one or five too many, though it wasn’t a regret the next morning. While Inera would benefit greatly from having a partner at her side, she has a lot of walls she’s put up for her own safety, and they will take a lot of breaking down. She’s learned she can’t rely on her family, so who can she rely on? There’s a little voice nagging her in the back of her mind that would like to be proven wrong, however.

36     Warden-Commander of Nevarra     Nevarra, Deep Roads
Cassiopeia Sophronius
Cassie started life as a Laetan Noble in Vyrantium, Tevinter. Betrothed at sixteen to Aulus Cernuus, an Altus and heir to a magister’s seat, Cassie accidentally uses Force magic to throw him over a balcony when he makes unwelcome advances. Her mother helps her flee the country that night, bound on a ship for Antiva. She finds work as an apprentice seamstress and barmaid, only to out herself as a mage when a customer got violent and she threw him across the tavern. She escaped to Nevarra, working odd jobs for a while – but eventually the Templars caught up with her. She was taken to the Cumberland Circle and put under the supervision of then-Templar Neassa Séverin until her Harrowing. The two woman mutually distrusted each other, Neassa going as far as framing Cassie as a blood mage during her Harrowing. At her trial Cassie was declared innocent, but never implicated Neassa. The templar left a short time later to join the Seekers, leaving Cassie as an Enchanter.

A few years later Cassie joins the Grey Wardens, after being scouted a year earlier. During her time as a Warden she finds a true family for the first time, along with the freedom she craved. She ran into Neassa several times over the years, even helping her kick her lyrium addiction. Cassie rose through the ranks, and became Warden-Commander in 9:44 after discovering their previous Commander had put off his Calling for years, turning more ghoul than man. She has since dedicated herself to revitalising the crumbling Nevarran order.

Friends: Several close ones, though not many. She sees all the Wardens as an extended family, but only confides in a handful of people. She has a good working relationship with Leliana, or Sister Nightingale of the Inquisition after assisting in the investigations into the Wardens.

Enemies: Darkspawn. Anyone in league with the darkspawn, no matter how good said darkspawn’s vocabulary is. Anyone who attacks her or her people.

Lovers: None so far, given Cassie is demisexual and hasn’t really had that spark with anyone yet. She doesn’t think she’s missing much.

Frenemiers?: Neassa Séverin deserves her own category. She’s less of a spark and more of an inferno, so Cassie’s not really cottoning on quickly, not to mention she still remembers all the murder attempts and that time Neassa took off without a word for eight years while Cassie was helping her during her lyrium withdrawal. The jury is still out on how long Cassie will be pissed about that, and the two of them have a loooooooong way to go before they can be in anything close to a healthy relationship, romantic or not.

So, I was chatting with Nimm, and I was wondering how you would feel about doing a thread with Aidan and Lu? I was thinking that it would be very possible for a bounty on Inera to have been posted in Kirkwall, and if Aidan and Lu saw it they would actually go to seek Inera out to warn her about it after they took it down. Does that sound like something you'd be up for?
